**Redcata** is an incredibly rare experimental hybrid, uniting rainforest genetics (Redfoot) with desert genetics (Sulcata). The result is a tortoise that grows fast and large like the Sulcata, but with the dark coloration and reddish hues on the legs and head inherited from the Redfoot.

The Best of Both Worlds

Dark Titan

Redcatas typically possess a slightly more elongated shell shape than a pure Sulcata, with a darker base color (dark brown to black) between the scutes. The most striking feature is the scales on the legs and head, which often retain the red or orange pigment from the Redfoot parent, providing a beautiful contrast against the large, robust body.

Genetic Rarity

Due to the difference in genus and natural habitats of both parents, this hybrid is extremely unlikely to occur naturally. Its existence in captivity is the result of highly selective cross-breeding programs. Owning a Redcata means possessing a "unicorn" in the tortoise world—a beautiful and resilient biological anomaly.

Versatile Care

  • Diet: Unique in that they require high fiber (grass) like a Sulcata, but are also tolerant of and enjoy occasional fruit like a Redfoot.
  • Humidity: More tolerant of high humidity compared to pure Sulcatas, resulting in shells that tend to grow smoother (less pyramiding).
  • Environment: Prefers warm tropical temperatures (28-32°C) with access to basking areas and shallow soaking pools.

Bold & Curious

The Redcata inherits the high curiosity of the Redfoot and the "bulldozer" boldness of the Sulcata. They are very confident animals, not easily stressed, and actively explore their environment. Interaction with owners is very intense, often following human footsteps to beg for food.
